October 2109
From Caroline Fechner, Music Committee Chair

Term 3 ended with three excellent performances from our jazz ensembles at Manly Jazz 2018 and our Encore Performance Night.

All our ensembles performed at the annual Encore Evening with some lovely performances for family and friends from all ensembles.  We sadly bid farewell to our Year 12s, although they will be making guest appearances at some events in the coming months.

Senior Jazz, Intermediate Jazz and the Jazz Combo played to large, appreciative audiences. Senior Jazz discovered a new star in Ben Hartmann who was very comfortable as MC of the Senior Jazz performance.  His humour and quips about his fellow performers kept us all entertained.  Thank you to Tim Crow (Senior Jazz) and Lachie Hamilton (Intermediate Jazz) who stepped in as guest conductors for the performances.

Senior Jazz were also fortunate to participate in a workshop delivered by international jazz artists, Alto-saxophonist and educator, Andrew Speight and US Drummer, Carl Allen.  It was a privilege for the students to have such gifted musicians and educators  give advice and share their knowledge with our musicians.

 School Spectacular – Senior Jazz
Senior Jazz have been invited to be part of the School Spectacular celebrations on Friday 24 November as a featured artist in SpecFest. Hundreds of ensembles applied to take part so it’s a great honour for us to be chosen to perform. SpecFest is the pre-show entertainment which complements the Schools Spectacular arena show.  Families can enjoy two hours of pre-show entertainment and enjoy a range of delicious food and beverage stalls.

End of Year Wrap Up – social.   Thursday 29 November
More details to come regarding our final meeting of the year which will be a chance for us all to catch up and hear plans for next year.
